As the gastronomic capital of the Garraf area, with a strong seafaring and farming tradition, the bedrock of the cuisine of Vilanova i la Geltrú is the quality of its products.

Both traditional and innovative dishes are served in the many restaurants of Vilanova i la Geltrú, with fish being the main ingredient of the local cuisine. The famous Vilanova prawn is the emblem of a fish market to which over one hundred boats deliver their daily catch of the typical local species of this part of the coastline, which form the cornerstone of our cuisine.

The most typical species are sea bass, hake, gilt-head bream, sole, monkfish, blue whiting and typical oily fish species, Norway lobster, sea snails, cuttlefish, squid and octopus, among many others, not to mention an entire range of fish for making excellent soups, stews, burnt garlic dishes, casseroles, rice dishes, allipebre dishes (fish with garlic and paprika sauce) and hearty fisherman’s dishes.
